In fact, the cruise major recently issued its “2019 sustainability report”, highlighting that an important milestone has been reached with the commissioning of AIDAnova, the world’s first LNG cruise ship.
Namely, the first use of fuel cells and batteries on board is planned for 2021.

What is more, during 2021, AIDAcosma, the second LNG cruise ship from AIDA Cruises, will welcome guests on board for the first time. Delivery of the third new building by Meyer Werft in Papenburg is planned for 2023.
In light of shipping decarbonization, AIDA dropped CO2 emissions by about 55% per person, per day, aboard the AIDAnova during 2019, in comparison to the fleet average in 2018.
Following company’s efforts towards sustainability, the cruise line managed to use 31% less plastic waste and 15% less food waste per person and day onboard, compared to the previous year, while water consumption fell by 6.8% during 2019.
